On page B1 of the 13 Nov 1976 edition of the San Diego Union newspaper there is an article relating Leroy's escape from the collision of a Norwegian ship and a St. Charles Parish ferry and of his rescue of another ferry passenger who would have surely drowned if not for Leroy's action.
